She’s back, and this time she’s not alone.
However, it’s going to be a different playing field for Ubly native Nicole Franzel and her fiancé, Victor Arroyo, as they team up together to compete in this season of the Amazing Race.
Season 31 will feature the first-ever showdown between contestants from Survivor, Big Brother and the Amazing Race. Eleven teams in total were drawn from the three shows and will compete for $1 million.
Franzel was crowned Big Brother’s Season 18 champion in 2016. Franzel and Arroyo — who finished in fifth that season — started dating shortly after the season concluded.
CBS producers contacted the couple last year to see if they would be interested in participating. Filming started in June and wrapped up in under a month.
“You’re literally fighting for your life for 28 days,” Franzel told the Tribune.
“Who wouldn’t want to travel around the world and have a chance at $1 million?” Arroyo said of the opportunity.
During the time of filming, Franzel and Arroyo were still in the dating phase and the show brought them much closer together.
“We saw each other at the most stressful of situations,” Arroyo said. “We had to work together through it.”
“It definitely made us stronger,” Franzel said.
In a CBS teaser trailer, competitors can be scene on a boardwalk in Hermosa Beach, California.
“This is a reality clash between fierce competitors who all think they have what it takes to race more than 25,000 miles around the world,” the show’s host, Phil Keoghan, tells competitors moments before the journey begins.
Catch the season premiere of The Amazing Race at 9 p.m. Wednesday on CBS.
Follow along with Franzel and Arroyo as they produce recaps of the show each week on their podcast.
“We’ll have a guest from the season on each episode,” Franzel said.
